Team Thunder Dwolf Sort of Takes Down NM State's 2011
Hey guys. States happened. I'm gonna tell you about it. Here's the list I used:
POKÉMON: 18
4-2-3-1 Porygon-Z Lv. X (2 TM, 2 Promo-1 TM, 1 Promo-Promo- MD)
2-1 Uxie Lv. X (LA-LA)
1 Azelf (LA)
1 Frosslass GL (RR)
1 Chatot MD
TRAINERS: 35
3 Rare Candy, UL-82
4 Pokemon Communication, GS-98
4 Poke Drawer +, SF-89
2 Super Scoop Up, UL-83
1 Luxury Ball, SF-86
1 Metal Energy, CL-95
4 Technical Machine TS-1, LA-136
4 Technical Machine TS-2, LA-137
3 Expert Belt, AR-87
2 Bebe's Search, RR-89
3 Professor Oak's New Theory, GS-101
3 Pokémon Collector, GS-97
2 Broken Time-Space, PL-104
ENERGY: 7
2 Rescue Energy, TM-90
4 Double Colorless Energy, GS-103
1 Metal Energy, CL-95
That's right, I used Porygon again. Because I'm poor (-ygon). Also I like it and I'm good with it.
When I got there (a little late), the lady who was checking my deck found two printer errors on my brand new pack of Regigigas sleeves, and I had to either find someone who happened to have spare Gigas sleeves or find something else to sleeve in.
I went up to my pal Joshua to ask if he had any and he replied "No, but I do have a brand new pack of pink ultra pro, I'll do half and you do half.". Joshua is so rad.
I sit down at my first round and I am SO pleased. The kid I'm playing looks inexperienced, and when we set up I get a crazy intense hand.
Porygon - Double Colorless - Collector - Poké Drawer - Poké Drawer - Devoluter - Evoluter
It was like god was cheating for me. Then I got less pleased, because the organizer said something about having to re-do the matchups so the masters could have a top 16, which means I couldn't use this gorgeous animal of a hand. We decide to play the game anyway just for fun while the organizer fixed things. He got a lone Electabuzz TM start :'(.
Round 1 (Furreals this time) against Some Kid - "Wicked Anti-Gyarados"
Honestly when I saw his double Duskull start I was a little worried. He seemed experienced and I obviously don't already know how my Dusknoir matchup is. I wanted my Electabuzz kid back. He kept sending out pixies and the like for me to knock out while he got his Dusknoir and Flygon set up on the bench, so I was already taking like a 3 prize lead by the time his attacker was there. I, like I do, one-shot it and he somehow gets out another one, this time the Lv. X. I one shot that too, and then get a little scared because I had forgotten about Dusknoirs body. I took the time to put 1 damage counter on all my guys, which was a little silly because I won on the next turn. He knew what he was doing though, and it was a good game.
1-0
Round 2 against a n00b - "Fire deck"
How this kid was 1-0 I have no idea. I go for a seven turn sweep of his Cyndaquils or whatever.
2-0
Round 3 against undefeated kid - "Celebi Garchomp"
This kid knew what he was doing. Oh god. I don't even remember that many details from the game, but he killed all of my stuff as I set it up with an Uxie stuck in my active, and I ended up with no search in my hand and 4 or 5 TMs in the discard. So I scooped. I'm pretty sure I could have won if I hadn't of played so terribly though, and I was confident if it came down to it I could beat him in top cut.
2-1
Round 4 against Amber G - "Straight Machamp (SF)"
I changed tenses here. Whatever.
This had me worried, I have a pretty bad Machamp matchup and I knew from previous experiences that she's a good player. Fortunately, I hadn't seen her at a tournament since last year's states so I think she was a little out of practice. It takes her a while to get set up and I kill Machops and Uxies until her Machamp is set up. I one shot it and she brings up another Machamp, levels it up and knocks me out. I manage to OHKO that too. The whole game went like this, and I won.
3-1
Round 5 against Jessica S. - "Really really good Luxchomp"
Oh god oh god oh god it's William Shand's sister. I have a really good matchup against Luxchomp so I totally thought I had it in the bag, but she's a TCG wizard genius and decided to use Lucario GL. She does 100 damage to me and I consider geting out a DGX but then decide it won't really continue being that big of a problem and KO it. But guess what dear readers! The next turn (I think) she plays an Aarons, get's her basic metal and Lucario, galactic switches a lightning to it, attaches another Energy Gain and knocks me out! We keep going and it's intense and all because her bad matchup makes us pretty much evenly matched. In the end we actually timed out, but on turn zero I had some magic luck with a Trade Off, knocked something or other out and drew my penultimate prize. She's totally screwed, she doesn't have anything left, she brings up some SP. Just for a little last bit of hope she tries for a Lucario GL again, and, somehow, through her brilliant TCG magic gets it. She a bat twice, turns or retreats her active (probably retreats), and uses Combo Throw for the game. Bummer, if I had won I would top cut, but it was a great game.
The judge watching us thanked us for smiling and laughing at eachother's jokes, and said he really appreciated it when people remembered Pokémon is supposed to be fun.
3-2
Oh yeah, Jessica went on to win the whole tournament, so that was cool.
After this match there was some waiting for about two or two and a half hours because Jose's mom couldn't pick us up for a while. Then we went to a casino and I slept at his house.
Ok cool, bye. I'll probably post pictures in a little while.
